Troop 72

Christopher Lomas

On April 29, 2006 at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Abington, Pa., Christopher Lomas of Boy Scout Troop 72 in Overlook Hills (Abington Township) received the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout - the highest Boy Scouting honor.

Chris, a senior at Abington High School,  has been active  in a variety of after-school activities including  the ecology club, filmmaking club, philosophy club, stage crew, and a member of  the Ultimate Frisbee team.  For his Eagle project, he refurbished the basement of the Roychester Community House. He and his crew cleaned and painted the walls, installed a new door and light, cleaned and waxed the floors, and renovated a handicapped ramp.

Chris started his scouting career as a Bear Cub Scout and has gone on many camping trips including ones that involved canoeing, wilderness survival, and COPE, which is an obstacle course suspended between 30-50 feet in the air. He has held many leadership positions including troop Quartermaster and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Chris has a great love for the outdoors and nature and has challenged himself with two High Adventure programs. “Boot and Paddle” was a combination of hiking and 70 miles of canoeing down the Delaware River.  “Fawn Run” was a back packing trip that included black powder shooting, field archery, tomahawk throwing, knife throwing, and fly fishing.

Chris has always been an active member of his community and church, logging 800 hours of community service in his senior year alone. He has also taken part in missionary trips to Mexico, and volunteered at a youth camp in Coatesville.

Chris will be attending community college in the fall and then hopes to pursue his interest in film and media.  He is also weighing an option of going to Yorkshire England to attend a bible college. His ultimate goal, though, is to explore many countries throughout the world.

The Eagle ceremony on April 29 included presentations by Abington Township Commissioners and special recognition from local and national officials. Commendations from the Governor and from President Bush, among others,  were read aloud to the family and friends gathered. The rank of Eagle Scout is recognized internationally as a symbol of leadership and values that these fine young men will carry with them always.
