Troop 72

Robert J. Pisch

On April 29, 2006 at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Abington, Pa., Robert Jules Pisch of Boy Scout Troop 72 in Overlook Hills (Abington Township) received the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout - the highest Boy Scouting honor.

Robert started his journey in scouting as a Tiger Scout and has advanced through the ranks while enjoying numerous camping trips and events. He has attended summer camp every year at Resica Falls Scout Reservation. He has held several leadership positions including Junior Assistant Scout Master, and enjoys teaching younger scouts about outdoor skills. Robert also took part in a  “Hoof and Hike” High Adventure trip that including backpacking for four days and horseback riding through mountains for three days.

For his Eagle project, Robert teamed up with local artist Iris Inis, Commissioner John Carlin, and Al Cherry Tree Service to revamp Roslyn Park at Maple and Susquehanna Avenues. Robert and his volunteers removed "Rosie" (a metal bird) for repairs, repainted the pole that she sat on, and refurbished an additional thirteen birdhouses. "Rosie" was originally placed on top of the pole facing north to help Roslyn Elementary School students learn geography, and has been a local landmark for some time.

Robert is currently a senior at Abington Senior High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, and the Ultimate Frisbee team. He will be attending Drexel University in the fall, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He will continue his involvement in Scouting and Troop 72 so that he can pass on his Scouting knowledge and interests to younger scouts.

The Eagle ceremony on April 29 included presentations by Abington Township Commissioners and special recognition from local and national officials. Commendations from the Governor and from President Bush, among others,  were read aloud to the family and friends gathered. The rank of Eagle Scout is recognized internationally as a symbol of leadership and values that these fine young men will carry with them always.
