Troop 72

Nicholas Clabbers

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2005, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Nicholas Michael Clabbers attained the highest rank in Scouting, the Eagle.

After participating in  Cub Scouts and attending every trip to Camp Hart and Delmont, Nick joined Boy Scouts in 5th grade at the age of 11.  Immediately, he realized just how much fun could be had through all of the adventures in Scouting. Nick has held various leadership positions within the troop and has attended summer camp at Resica Falls as a camper for 3 years. He has been a staff member at Resica for 3 years (soon to be 4). Also, he has gone on exciting High Adventure trips, which include biking from Buffalo to Niagara Falls to Watkins Glen in 2002 and sea kayaking in Maine in 2003.  He is  planning to travel to Ohiopyle, PA this summer to participate in whitewater rafting, backpacking and biking.

For his Eagle Project, Nick led the removal of illegally dumped woodchips on a bird sanctuary in Meadowbrook.   A fence was then constructed in the area to prevent further dumping.

Nick has been involved in many other activities outside of Scouting in the community and at school.  Currently a junior at Abington Senior High School, he is a two year member of the Abington Cross Country team and a three year member of the Track and Field team.  Nick has achieved honor roll distinction since ninth grade, and is a member of the National Honor Society.  He has been a member of the Alternative Sports Club for the past 3 years.  He also was one of the captains for the winning team in TADA (Teens Against Drugs and Alcohol) Games 2003.  Nick plans to continue his education at a college  and hopes to major in political science.
