Matt Draving
On May 22, 2005 Matthew S. Draving of Meadowbrook Pennsylvania was honored in a ceremony at Our Lady Help of Christians in Abington for attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Matt began his scouting career in Cub Scouts at age 7, moving on to Boy Scouts after obtaining the Arrow of Light Award in 1998. An active member of Troop 72, Matt has held a variety of leadership positions over the years, such as Patrol Leader, Instructor and Junior Assistant Scout Master. Matt also became a member of the Order of the Arrow. His Summer Camp experiences for 7 years offered not only fun, but an opportunity to learn and improve many skills and to earn merit badges, which are the basis of the Scouting program.
For his Eagle Project, Matt led a team of scouts and others who designed and painted murals of children playing at the Jenkintown Day Nursery for their new addition.
His seven years as a Boy Scout were filled with camping and high adventure experiences- from polar bear swims to orienteering, from gourmet campfire cooking to survival techniques. The highlight of these wonderful adventures for Matt was a toss up between his summer high adventure trip kayaking the islands off the coast of Maine or biking ,sometimes going as much as 60 miles a day, along Lake Ontario, including speed boating at Niagara Falls and flying gliders in Watkins Glen New York.
At Abington High School, Matt was a regular member of the Art Club and was for a time a member of both the Jazz and Marching Bands. Matt enjoys art of most any kind, playing with his band and being in the great outdoors.
Matt anticipates starting college at the Rhode Island School of Design in the fall where he will continue to develop his love for art into a career in industrial design
