Troop 72
Eagle ScoutJustin Michael Brooks
On April 10th, Justin Michael Brooks, of Scout Troop 72 Overlook Hills in Abington, PA, received the coveted rank of Eagle – the highest Boy Scouting honor.
Having spent five years as a Cub Scout and seven years in Boy Scouts, Justin has worked diligently toward this admirable goal. As he advanced through the ranks of scouting, Justin served as Troop Guide, Scribe, Chaplain Aide, Quartermaster, Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He attended Resica Falls Scout Camp for five summers where he earned many of his 26 Merit Badges as well as his BSA Lifeguard and BSA Snorkeling certifications, which allowed him to work as a camp lifeguard. Justin is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow. He has participated in two of Troop 72’s High Adventure trips, canoeing along the Allagash River in Maine and bicycling 360 miles from Buffalo, New York to Niagara Falls to Watkins Glen, New York.
Justin’s Eagle project was inspired by his love of musical performance. He organized a 12-member swing band of his peers and entertained the residents of Sunrise Retirement Community in Abington with an evening’s performance of swing music. This project involved well over 100 hours of planning, coordinating, and directing the musical program, practice sessions, and performance event with the help of Troop 72 scouts.
Currently, Justin is an honors student at Abington High School where he has been a member of the Marching Band for four years, serving as Brass Lieutenant this past year. Justin plays several musical instruments including the trombone, baritone, and euphonium. Throughout each of his high school years, he has been a member of the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Brass Ensemble as well as been selected to participate in the Montgomery County District Band.
Outside of school, Justin works part-time at Clemens Supermarkets. He is active in his synagogue, Congregation Rodeph Shalom, and an evening student at Gratz College’s Jewish Community High School. Justin has been a member of the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps spending the last two summers touring and performing throughout the United States. This summer, he will be touring and performing with the world-renowned drum and bugle corps known as The Cadets. In the fall of 2005, Justin will begin his freshman year at Babson College, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, studying entrepreneurial management and business.
