Troop 72
Benjamin P. Roscoe
On January 16, 2005 at the North Penn Post Number 676 VFW in Glenside, Pa., Benjamin P. Roscoe of Boy Scout Troop 72 received the coveted rank of Eagle, becoming the Troop’s youngest Eagle in many years.
Ben joined Troop 72 in 2000 and immediately recognized Scouting as both fun and rewarding. Besides attending meetings, camping and performing community service, Ben has held numerous positions of responsibility in Troop 72 and is currently the Troop Instructor and a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He attended summer camp at Resica Falls for five years and joined the Big Springs Camp Staff in 2003. Ben also participated in the 2003 High Adventure trip that included sea kayaking in Maine. For his Eagle project, Ben coordinated the painting of a large-scale map of the United States on the blacktop of the playground at Copper Beach Elementary School. The map has since been used as a learning aid and has even been integrated into the curriculum at the school.
Ben is currently a Junior at Abington High School. He has distinguished himself by becoming a member of the National Honor Society, earning the Presidential Award and the Congressional Award Bronze Medal. Ben has also made Honor Roll for three consecutive years, has been playing string bass in the school orchestra for seven years, and has been a member of the school’s Track and Field squad for five years.Ben hopes to continue in Troop 72 as an inspiration to younger scouts and to assist in the Troop’s operation and a college degree will be his next pursuit - a goal, we are sure , that is well within his grasp.
