Grant Kerrick
6/6/04

On June 6, 2004 at McKinley Fire House in Elkins Park, PA, Grant D. Kerrick of Boy Scout Troop #72 will receive the coveted rank of Eagle. As a Cub Scout in Pack 72, Grant held respect for the ideals of scouting. Grant crossed over to Boy Scouts and attended meetings, went on monthly camping trips, preformed community service, and earned merit badges. He attended summer camp for five years and enjoyed high adventure trips such as biking in Cape Cod, backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and canoeing on the Allagash River in Maine. Grant found keen competition in Paddlerama and Kettle Cup Canoe races as a member of the Dusters Canoe Team. The leadership positions Grant held were of Assistant Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Assistant and Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. For his Eagle project, Grant was pleased to design and build a set of steps with handrails as the entrance to the Meadowbrook Bird Sanctuary. It is important to Grant that citizens of all ages and abilities not only have access to the area but a safe entrance as well. Grant is involved in other activities that show leadership, scholarship, and service. He was selected for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Valley Forge Military College and is on the National Dean's List. He is a volunteer firefighter. While at Abington High School, Grant earned the President's Student Service Award twice and holds the title of Second Team All-League Offensive Line Tackle (Suburban I Football League, 2002) and played the string bass in the school's orchestra. He also participated in the German Foreign Exchange Student Program.
