John A. Feather II

6/27/04

John Feather II of Troop 72 is one of two new Eagle Scouts  honored in a ceremony at Saint Luke’s in Glenside, PA on Sunday June 27th, 2004. John has held many leadership positions in the troop, ranging from guide scout, all the way to junior assistant scoutmaster. He has participated in the Patrol Leader Development Program, which builds strong leadership skills, and later he served as an instructor in that same program.  He is an Order of the Arrow Brotherhood member of Unami Lodge 1.

Highlights of John's years in scouting included Paddlerama, a canoeing adventure; S.C.O.P.E., a boy scout exchange trip with Canadian scouts and a high adventure trip to Maine for hiking and ocean kayaking. The high adventure trips  for experienced scouts challenge them with new skills and test their endurance.

Each Eagle Scout is required  to put his leadership skills to the test as he designs and manages a project with the goal of returning something of value to the community.  John organized a group of  Troop 72 scouts to refurbish the walking trails at the Briar Bush Nature Center. Another aspect of his project was to rework the main sign for the nature center.

John is also quite a musician having received the outstanding musicianship award at Abington High School where he just finished his senior year. At Abington, he participated in the marching band and the indoor percussion ensemble and was a member of the symphonic band . He was also a member of the Phoenix Drum and Bugle Corps outside of school.  John has enjoyed participation in other community & school activities as well such as the 24-hour relay race.  John's future plans involve matriculation into college this Fall  to study Photography.

Present at the ceremony to honor John and fellow Eagle Ernst Pisch, Jr. were State Representative  Ellen Bard,  Montgomery County Detachment of  the Marine Corps League, and the North Penn Post of the VFW and citations were sent from various other dignitaries such as Congressman Joseph Hoeffel .
