On February 23, 2003 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Abington, Pa, Sean A. Rooney of Boy Scout Troop 72 received the coveted rank of Eagle.

Sean first declared his goal to be an Eagle Scout  as an 8 year old Tiger Cub, after he attended his first Blue and Gold banquet. Even then, he had a keen respect for the ideals that scouting represents and promotes. Sean continued ton  in Cub and then Boys Scouts  for the next decade, attending meetings, going on weekend camping trips, performing community service, and earning merit badges. He attended summer camp for 6 years, and participated in high adventure trips that included biking in Cape Cod and Niagara Falls, hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and canoeing in the  Allagash wilderness of Maine. For his Eagle project, Sean was planned and carried out a voter registration drive in the Willow Grove area, to  emphasize his belief in the importance of  exercising one's right to vote.

Other activities Sean has been involved in reflect the scout goals of building a healthy spirit, body and mind. He has played the violin in the  youth ensemble at his church for the past seven years.  Sean has worked on the stage crew for the Abington High School plays for three years,  been a member of the school track team for four years, the cross-country team for three years and the indoor track team for two years. In his Junior and Senior years, he received the “Most Improved Runner” award. Sean also participates in the Abington Township 24-hour Relay Challenge, and was a member of the team that still holds the record for most the miles run.

Sean is currently a senior at Abington High School. He plans to  study pharmacy sciences. He has been accepted to Duquesne University, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and Rutgers University.
