Troop72 EAGLES
Troop 72's Mike Bleau is one of two new Eagle Scouts honored in a ceremony on Sunday June 2nd, 2003 . Mike has been involved in the scouting program for 11 years. He has held many leadership positions in the troop, ranging from patrol leader, all the way to junior assistant scoutmaster. He participated in both Patrol Leader Development, and Troop Leader Training at Impeeza, programs that build strong leadership skills and qualities. He is also an Order of the Arrow Brotherhood member of Unami Lodge 1 .
Highlights of Mike's years in scouting include 3 high adventure trips, which are for experienced scouts and challenge them with new skills and test their endurance. For example, Mike went on a 200 mile 6 day ride around Cape Cod, particiapted in the Ohiopyle hiking, whitewater, and rock climbing adventure, and canoed the Allagash River in Maine, one of the best preserved wilderness areas in the US.
For his Eagle project , where scouts individually manage a project with the goal of returning something of value to the community, Mike restored the main room in the basement of the Rochester Community House. The project included new light fixtures, a door frame, new ceiling tiles, restoring and repainting the ceiling grid and walls, and restoring the stairway of the community house and required over 100 hours of community service.
Mike is also very active outside of scouting. Just finishing his senior year as an honors student in advanced placement courses at Hatboro-Horsham High School, he has participated in the marching band, the track team and the chess team, been a student council representative and a member of the indoor percussion ensemble . While a student, he also worked at CPU unlimited, Giant Food Stores, and UPI Wireless, where he received most improved employee award in 2002.
