Troop72
Mike Hurley

On September 28th, 2003 in a special ceremony at Abington Presbyterian Church, Michael Hurley of Scout Troop 72 was honored as an Eagle Scout.

Active in school, in his church, in his community and with high personal goals, Michael has not slowed down for a minute since he joined the scouts over 10 years ago. He has held many leadership positions in his Troop, such as Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster among others. His adventures with the Troop have included the Kettle Cup Canoe Race, many summer High Adventure trips - ie: to bike Cape Cod, backpack the White Mountains, river raft at Ohiopyle , canoe the Allagash and more . Mike was elected to Order of the Arrow by his peers in 2000.

Mike's Eagle Project consisted of obtaining materials, tools and labor to make bluebird houses. The houses were presented to the Abington High School biology department to be positioned around the area for monitoring and study by future biology students with the intent of raising the local bluebird population.

Mike's activities in school have included being a member of Student Council, TADA, JV soccer, varsity lacrosse and positions as president and vice-president of the Alternative Sports Club just as a sampling. And he has an impressive list of community involvements, as well. A member of the Roslyn Boys Club, he has participated in baseball and soccer there,  and has been an assistant coach for the women's senior soccer team. He has also played soccer for Hunter Soccer Club, worked for the KYW radio homework hotline and has been a junior firefighter at McKinley Fire Co.

Mike is currently a freshman at East Stroudsburg University with an interest in becoming a Physical Education teacher.
