Troop72

    Double the Pleasure

Twin brothers Carl and Fred Marin received their Eagle Scout awards on Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Abington Presbyterian Church. They are members of the Cradle of Liberty Council, Troop 72. Carl is presently attending Temple University’s Tyler School of Art as a Graphic Arts Major;  Fred is attending Lock Haven University as a Biology Major.

Carl and Fred began Cub Scouts together in elementary school. Both moved through the required ranks and merit badges, continuing into Boy Scouts  until each had  attained the ultimate goal of Eagle Scout.
Carl and Fred have a wide variety of personal interests. Both enjoy music and  play the guitar, and also enjoy hiking, camping and biking. Carl also spends time with his art and bicycle repair where Fred  can be found  running, hunting and tying flies for fly fishing.

Carl’s  interest  in biking led him to a rather unique Eagle project.  He collected used bicycles and under his supervision fellow scouts helped him  repair and clean each donation. He was able to deliver a total of 21 safe, useable, and attractive bicycles to be given to needy families as Christmas gifts for their children through the American Family Services Foundation.
Fred’s interest in nature and the outdoors arereflected in his Eagle Project as well. Under Fred’s supervision, he and his fellow scouts and friend restored a quarter mile of the Mitchell Trail, a hiking and equestrian trail at the Penny pack Ecological Restoration Trust (PERT). It is now a safe, erosion proof trail for both people and horses.

Scouting has been a major part of these young men's lives helping  to shape them into responsible, moral, hardworking, kind young men. It has kept them on a positive forward path, giving them leadership skills that enable their personal goals. Attaining the rank of  Eagle is a once in a lifetime achievement  and there is but one  opportunity in life to achieve it. For the Marins,  having twins in Scouting has been double the effort, no doubt. But the Marins assure us this proud achievement has brought double the pleasure for the whole family.
