On November 5th at the Huntingdon Valley Presbyterian Church three young men from Troop 72 Overlook Hills (Abington Township) received the coveted rank of Eagle - the highest Boy Scouting honor. They are Peter A.Wisniewski, Thomas A. Lutzow and Joseph K. Webb.
These three young men developed their leadership abilities by choosing a path of advancement through the ranks of scouting that culminated in the completion of an Eagle Project conceived, directed and implemented by them. Each project was aimed at returning something valuable to the community.
For his Eagle project, Peter Wisniewski rebuilt a springhouse at the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust. Among his scouting activities, Peter has served as Chaplain, Patrol Leader, Senior Assistant Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, had whitewater training and participated in summer camp activities. He is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow. He has participated in scouting High Adventure trips, canoeing the Allagash in Maine, back packing the White Mountains of New Hampshire and cycling from Ocean City N.J. to Maryland as well as cycling in Canada. Currently a freshman at Penn State University, he previously earned the Parchment Award and special achievement awards for Literature and Communications Technology, was a member of Hatboro-Horsham High School's golf team from 96-98 and was an honor roll student. He has also been an Acolyte at his church since 1990 .
Thomas A. Lutzow, was a member of the National Art Honor Society while at Bishop McDevitt High School. He put his art talents to work for his Eagle Project and created a mural of the United States to serve as a playground activity and learning aid for Our Lady Help of Christians, where he once attended elementary school. Tom is an Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow and has been a Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, Senior Assistant Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Like Peter, his High Adventure trips included canoeing the Allagash in Maine, back packing the White Mountains of New Hampshire and cycling from Ocean City N.J to Maryland as well as cycling in Canada. Tom also sailed the Mystic in Connecticut. He is currently active in Explorer Post 1320. Tom was an Altar Server at his church for 4 years. At McDevitt, besides the National Art Honor Society, he was Yearbook Editor in his junior and senior years, a member of the Wrestling team and Golf team in 1996 and of the Art Club. Tom has worked several years at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club. He currently attends Penn State University.
Joseph K. Webb cleaned and painted the hallways at his former grade school, Our Lady Help of Christians in Abington. An Altar Server for 3 years and a Student Sacristan for 4, he has been active in his church as well as in school and in scouting. He, too, has had whitewater training, participated in summer camps, served as Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, Senior Assistant Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster as he worked toward his Eagle rank. At McDevitt, Joe was a member of the National Honor Society, was Editor in Chief of his yearbook and a yearbook staff member previously and earned academic awards in Biology and U.S. History. Joe worked this summer at a YMCA day camp, and is currently a freshman at LaSalle University.
The ceremony included presentations by Commissioner James Ring, special recognition from Pa. House Representative Ellen Bard, and commendations sent from President & Mrs. Clinton, among others, that were shared with the family and friends gathered. The rank of Eagle Scout is recognized internationally as a symbol of leadership and values that these fine young men will carry with them always.
