Scouting Committees & Parent Participation  ** PARENT(S)HELP ALWAYS  NEEDED**


Address List Coordinator -  copies afforded only to Troop 72 members .  Please do not use these for anything other than scouting business .  Includes snail mail & email  addresses 

Advancement  Committee - Record Keeper & Coordinator - Keep accurate records on boys advancements -  Committee charged with reviewing handbooks and  encouraging the boys to advance, making sure their moving forward and helping them overcome any problems they might be having, helping  on advancement review boards & being  liaison to Advancements Records Keeper    
 

Alumni Liason  - Plan an event or  trip to include  troop alumni - with special dinner or recognition to introduce them. Encourage alums to check in to website and keep us up to date

Archivist - knows where to find historical information, pictures, scrap books memorabilia,  etc .  Keeps a list and updates list to reflect any additions - provides info on this topic to the webmaster

Assistant Scoutmasters - adults, 18 years of age or older. Formal training provided. To assist the Scoutmaster in conducting weekly meetings.    

Bike & Hike Conditioning Coordinator
-  Arrange  either impromptu or regular  trips during the year  to keep everyone in shape for up coming Biking Trips or Hiking Trips and for general camaraderie .  Ideal might be  Saturday morning  9 to 12ish

Corresponding Secretary - Keep email list and snail mail lists  informed of necessary information & send necessary correspondences for Troop   

Camping Committee - works closely with the Scoutmaster to coordinate camping trips, reservations, tour permits, travel requirements, equipment needs, canoes, insurance info,  menu planning and food  

Canoeing
- responsible for Troop canoeing program, equipment rental, training and competition   

Clothing Drive - coordinates with scouts the December clothing drive including distribution  

C.O.P.E. Coordinator - 
get info about COPE and share it with Troop

Driver Information Updates - be sure info is current and complete .    

Eagles - Eagle  Scout Advancement - responsible for advancement of and reviewing Eagle Scout candidates, to insure that they meet National, Council and Troop requirements. Advancement Committee 

Equipment / Supplies Locator  - 
makes  &  keeps a list of  what supplies the Troop has and can tell you who has the key to what . Who has the canoes?  Where are the tents?   Keys to Roychester, supply cabinets, camping gear, lending library, etc are kept by just a few - but the person in this job can tell you WHO that is when you're trying to track one down.   

Equipment Repair Coordinator -  assess condition and arrange for necessary repairs

Food Drive - Coordinates the  Thanksgiving  Food Drive  including distribution to food bank or families  

Food Shopping for adults for Camping Trip  -   do food shopping for the camping trips. 

Fundraising 
- see Ways & Means

Game Time Monitor - oversee game time just to make sure they aren't killing each other 

High Adventure - coordination of high adventure trips   - Potential ... hiking, biking, sailing, etc.

Lost & Found - keeps available a list of items  found or sought.   Updates info  for webmasters  -( Most items can be brought to meetings several times  til the owner is found - list should be short ! )    

Lending Library -
Merit Badge & other books available to scouts for their use.  This is kept in the community house - Key needed .  This person keeps our library list updated, shares the update with webmaster,  & knows how you can get hold of the key to borrow a book when you need it        

Medical Forms
- collection and coordination Troop medical forms - an annual activity. (required for summer camp)

Merit Badge Counselors there is a list  put out by the District  of people in the District . While many in the troop  get most of their badges within the troop or at summer  camp .  Patrol Leaders and Scouts  helping with advancements  

Neckerchief - a parent to sew approximately 20 neckerchiefs each year.

Neighboring Troop Liason   - 
make list for contacts in other nearby Troops - share ideas that are working best - Trips, activities etc  Attend Roundtables 

New Scout Program
- responsible for working with Cub Packs and individuals as they join the Troop. Including Den Chiefs, Guide Scouts, and summer camp Dan Beard Program. Before & after Webelos Cross-Over

New Scout Registration Process -  Take care of the paperwork when new Scouts join the Troop - getting the right paperwork out to Council in a timely manner and collecting contact info - to distribute for Scoutmaster /  Advancements Chair /and Address List Keeper  

Non-Camping Events - to coordinate non-camping events (Thanksgiving Food Drive, Halloween Party, Holiday Party, etc.)

Opportunities for Scouts - list and make scouts aware of opportunities both inside and outside of the troop activities that are available -  such as  C.O.P.E or Philmont Ranch or  Working with Abington Township's summer camp program as a leader. 

Order Of the Arrow

Physical Fitness Challenge  Assessment of exercise, activity, and diet and plan for self improvement . 
 Offered to all, but also leads to fullfilment of the Personal Fitness Merit Badge, a 12 week program.
 

Publicity - submission of articles to local papers re: trips/ Eagles /events/ accomplishments

Patrol Corners Helpers -   Check with each group when the boys are making menus  & trip plans to be sure all details are covered *

Programs - Coordinating our annual program and weekly programs (  Scoutmaster  generally does this)

Quartermasters Overseer -   Troop and Patrol Quartermasters need help in making sure tents get put up and taken down properly with all their respective parts. Same for patrol boxes being complete and clean.

Scope Olympia  -  an exchange every four years with Scouts from Canada . Generally in May.  Families will be needed to host  Canadian scouts when they come here  -

Ski Trip  - coordinates winter ski  or ski/tubing  trip

Tom Smerke Camping Award -  awarded to  the scout who comes on every trip that the troop takes that year.  One week of summer camp is  awarded free.  

Training - responsible for promoting adult and youth training A. Adult Training .    PLO - Patrol Leader Training - selection, coordination and conducting - TLT - Troop Leader Training - selection of candidates and coordination of attendance programs  

Treasurer's Assistant  (Money Master)  -  Collect money for trips, camp etc  and record it at meetings.  Give $ to  treasurer or see that it is deposited . 

Trip/Food Coordination - parents are encouraged and invited to participate in all Troop trips as active participants, as drivers, cooks, helpers, etc.  Parents are  expected to drive on a minimum of two trips per year


Uniform Exchange
- to maintain and control the exchange of good quality, used uniform parts. 

Volunteer Coordinator -   contacts each parent in the troop who is not already listed in a particular position  to fill positions that are still empty or to find assistants for ones that already have coordinator   

Ways and Means - Fundraising   
Lawn & Garden sale : parents are encouraged to support their son in our annual fund raising event. Team Captains are selected each winter to aid in the process ... to coordinate and follow-up with a small group of boys with their orders, distribution, deliver, collection of money, etc.

ALL PARENTS :  Besides signing on to some specific  committees to help, each parent is asked to help out wherever possible .  Ie: drive whenever possible,  encourage your son's progress at home,  sign on for script, etc.  There are many ways each month that the Troop can use your help. Your sons will benefit from your involvement.
