On Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. Scout Troop 72 took the Williamson Restaurant in Horsham, PA by storm.

One of the oldest troops in existence today, Troop 72 was originally chartered on April 16, 1934 - just 24 years after the founding of  The Boy Scouts of America in 1910. The Boy Scouts of America is now the largest youth organization in America.

Troop 72 is in the Washington District of the Cradle of Liberty Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  The chartering organization, the Roychester Community House in the Overlook Hills community of Abington Township, Montgomery County, PA has provided a home for the young men of Troop 72 for many years.

With 174 boys from the Troop having attained the coveted Eagle Scout designation by May of 2009, it is clear that this organization is active and focused - both on achievement and on fun.  The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Included among the activities that Troop 72 scouts engage in, to take just one example, is a yearly food drive.  Several thousand cans of food for the poor have been collected by this Troop every year for as long as anyone can remember, in addition to many other wonderful contributions to the community. The many Eagle projects alone have  benefited the community in so many ways.

The celebration itself included wonderful food, professional entertainment as well as a round-up of the best stories, skits and campfire favorites enjoyed  throughout the years. In addition, the fun included baskets to bid on and special fundraising activities to delight all and to help Troop 72 purchase  a new camping trailer.  Memorabilia spanning the 75 year history of the Troop was on display, and --yes-- there were T-shirts for attendees to memorialize the occasion !

The evening brought many smiles and a good time to all .
