The Memory Bank

The 92 year old petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionable coiffed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she islegally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual

description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window.

"I love it," she said with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room..just wait."

That doesn't have anything to do with it,"she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the

furniture is arranged...it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it. It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the next day and all the happy memories I've stored away just for this time in my life.

Old age is like a bank account: you withdraw from what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories.

Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still depositing:

Remember the five simple rules to be happy;

1. Free your heart from hatred.

2. Free your mind from worries

3. Live simply

4. Give more

5. Expect less

Random thoughts

I live in my own little world. But it's OK...they know me here.

I don't do drugs anymore 'cause I find I get the same effect just standing up really fast.

HOLIDAYS
I got a sweater for Christmas...I wanted a screamer or a moaner.

Why is it that most nudists are people you don't want to see naked?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER  by Erma Bombeck

I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the "GOOD" living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and spray
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment realizing that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love yous" ... more "I'm sorrys"....
but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute.....look at it and really see it ... live it ... and never give it  back.

Take this quiz:

Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.

Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.

Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

> How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.

These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.

But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten.

Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.

 Easier?

The lesson?

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.

The State of the World

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:
There would be:  57 Asians    21 Europeans    14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south    8 Africans    52 would be female>    48 would be male    70 would be non-white    30 would be white    70 would be non-Christian   30 would be Christian    89 would be heterosexual    11 would be homosexual     6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all     6 would be from the United States.    80 would live in substandard housing    70 would be unable to read    50 would suffer from malnutrition     1 would be near death; 1 would be near birth     1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education     1 would own a computer
____________________________________________________________________

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.  The following is also something to ponder...If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, You are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week. If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world. If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world. If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy. If your parents are still alive and still married, you are very rare, even in the United States and Canada. If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

Water or Coke?

We all know that water is important, but I've never seen it written down like this before.
Water...
1) 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.(Likely applies to half world population).
2) In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is oftenmistaken for hunger.
3) Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4) One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
5) Lack of water = the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6) Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7) A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8) Drinking 5 glasses of water a daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should daily??

Coke...
1) In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2) You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
3) To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4) To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5) To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6) To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7) To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle.
The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. For your Info.
8) The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.
9) To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for ighly corrosive materials.
10) The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is; Would you like a glass of water or Coke?
